PRESS RELEASE Zakat al-Fitr
Ramadan 1446 Quebec, March 18, 2025
According to Ibn-Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prescribed Zakat al-Fitr as a purification for the fasting person from frivolity and obscenity, and as food for the poor. So whoever pays it before the prayer, it will be an accepted Zakat; and whoever pays it after the prayer, it will be considered a charity among charities" (Sahih Abi-Dawoud).
Amount of Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1446
The Table de Concertation des Organisations Musulmanes du Québec (TCOM) informs the Muslim community of Quebec that the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1446 is set at $15 CAD per dependent of the Muslim faith.
Deadline for Zakat al-Fitr
The TCOM reminds everyone that Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the Eid prayer to be accepted as purification for fasting and aid to the needy. The deadline for making your donations is Wednesday, March 26, 2025 .
Encouragement of direct solidarity
TCOM encourages community members to pay this Zakat directly to people in need whom they know, without necessarily going through our mosques.
Collection of Zakat al-Fitr
Mosques belonging to TCOM will not collect Zakat al-Fitr in the form of food. Collection boxes for cash will be made available in member mosques to facilitate this process.
